The scene was set, the dawn chorus of birdsong in

The scene was set, the dawn chorus of birdsong in The Ritz Hotel’s Jardinière
echoed as the salon came to life.
One of the hotel staff remarked that the birdsong was louder than usual.
The day was busy, members of the press flowed into the room to be dazzled
and struck by the beauty of Fawaz Gruosi’s creations.

Reminiscent of a Parisian Atelier, three round tables play
host each to a dressmaker’s dummy.
Splayed from each is a shock of beautiful material,
a dress unfinished, a creative act not complete.
We see too the work in progress of the most magical,
the creation of Fawaz’s pieces themselves.
It’s a back stage view of an extraordinary show
about to happen...

Patrick Affolter, the director of the atelier, leads the team that bring Fawaz's
creations to life. Patrick and Fawaz have been working together so long
that they talk in short-hand.

To use a musical analogy, it was lovely to see Fawaz, the composer,
Patrick, the conductor and Marie, the solo violinist in one room,
showing to the press the process from inspiration to beautiful object.

Dickie Dawson’s 50th. He asked if I could possibly help dress the venue. I got a little carried away.
It’s a totem of everything I think of when I think of him. His love for his children (the eyes), his dog Nel, (running on the wheel) and his drone pilots licences (the desk fan and hosepipe). Only with him have I played tennis, hungover, in wellies. He’s a brilliant photographer, has an unsurpassed joy for life, teamed with a solid moral backbone.
We work together, as well as being great pals. Always fun. Happy birthday @dickiedaw

The Last Supper Project

For a few years I have been collecting ‘sherds’, broken crockery.
Trenches and holes in the streets and parks of London are
often fruitful.

My fascination is of the impossible to know,
namely knowing who dropped the plate, when was it dropped,
and what was the last meal on it.

So I imagine these things. By bequeathing a name, a time
and last meal it becomes the basis of an untold story.

(As an aside I love to think of the expletive that was uttered
as the plate hit the floor).

What I say can be neither proved or disproved.
It is so, because I say it is so. I find that incredibly empowering.

They are forming the basis of a book, perhaps a recipe book of sorts, it’s early days, in which I tell the stories of how some of the plates met their demise.

‘Future forest’ is a working title for a colle

‘Future forest’ is a working title for a collection of tree ‘skeletons’ that I have found in a Copse. The outer wood is soft, removing it reveals the heart wood, which is as hard as stone. Excuse the artistic licence here, imagining the first one that I’ve photographed sitting in a plinth of polished concrete in a gallery setting. Some of the skeletons are 7m high, this one is 3m. I find them so beautiful. Their soft flesh is long gone, yet their heart, though not alive, is still so strong. Cutting into it is hard, and the smell of Amber is divine. The collection, a copse, if you will, will be of 15.
